Local Business Blogging
Everyone seems to talk -- and blog -- about businesses with a global or national scope that blog, but blogging can have great benefits for local business too.
In this recent article, Durham author insists N.H. leaders need to get in game , Matt Tetrault writes about the scarcity of local businesses in New Hampshire blogging. Yes, I'm the "author" mentioned.
Next week, once I'm home from Moscow, I'll start writing about:
- specific benefits to blogging for local businesses
- special techniques for local businesses that blog
- some examples of local businesses that blog
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Ted, first let me mention that I just received my copy of your new book. It is a definitive primer for any business, large or small, who wants to try blogging on for size. You and Shel did an outstanding job. Speaking as a business blog consultant, let me say a hearty "thank you" for this volume. I'll recommend it to all my clients.
Now, to the matter at hand. Please take a look at www.lakecountyblog.com as an example of how blogs can help grow a business at the local level. It is a hyperlocal online community "newspaper" sponsored by a local Realtor, the Crockett Team, in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area. All content is supplied by businesses, non-profits, associations, local government, and the Realtor of course. He has branding on every page with links to his MLS and main websites.
This is an experimental approach to be sure, and the site is just getting started. Regardless, I think it is a model other such businesses can and should follow. It offers intensive SEO and branding benefits and provides a valuable community service, while relieving the site sponsor of all the burden of providing content.
It was built by a company with which I serve as VP of Marketing, Blogging Systems.
Again, thanks for the excellent book. You guys nailed it!

Paul,
Thanks for your kind words!
www.lakecountyblog.com is a great example. I like the keywords in the blog URL/name and in the post titles as well!
I believe we'll see more local blogs as well as blogs in relatively new verticals (from the viewpoint of blogs), like lawyer blogs, real estate blogs, doctor blogs. etc.
