Bloggers Writers Block - Part III of Easily Developing Blog Content
Part I Part II
When I suffer from "writers block," I sometimes make myself write ANYTHING. What comes out is usually better than I think. And if it's absolute garbage, I can usually get a laugh by reading it later before throwing it away.
But sometimes you really can't think of anything to write. Some tips that work for me to get my writing going:
- Surf the net – I usually come up with ideas of find a great post or website to link/trackback to and comment on.
- Take a break. Breaks are good and often I find I'm much more productive and creative afterwards.
- Read my old blog posts – and other old stuff I've written: newsletters, emails, reports, articles, letters to my mother, letters to Santa, letters to the Easter Bunny, letters to the Great Pumpkin – really anything. Dig though old files on your computer. Yes, this really works well for me.
- Try blogging elsewhere. A change of scenery can be great. The local Panera restaurant has free wireless and good coffee, although blogging on a random piece of paper over a beer at a bar is good too. Sometimes I'll go for a bike ride and eventually stop somewhere and write with pen and paper.
- Google strange terms, like "evil cheese," "naked goats," "bald proletariat," etc. Stream of consciousness Googling. You just might come across something, and even when I don't I usually have a good laugh and the writers block goes away.
And (again), I make myself write ANYTHING when having trouble writing, whether its finishing a blog post or starting one. It's often good, most always funny, and certainly gets my creative juices flowing . . .
