5 Signs Your Blog Post Is Going Horribly Wrong
Sometimes a blog post, even one you're intially very excited to write, starts to lose momentum, flail, lose it's point, it's raison d'etre.
Sometimes you should abandon it, or at least save instead of posting and re-read later. It may truly suck or rock with minor changes.
Copyblogger's post on the 5 reasons your post is going wrong is a great and insightful read.
Oh, some posts of mine that started to flail and lose it have ended up being my most popular after minor changes. Don't abandon an idea too quickly, but abandon when all hope is lost!

I never really know. I'm doing a guest series Leon Ho's site on unusually uses for common tools and items. I thought it would be mildly interesting to the readers. Instead, it has drawn more comments and "pingbacks" than anything else I've written. Who knows???

It can be tough! Occasionally I'll have the same experience.
Stats are great as well - I'm always surprised at what my most popular posts are.
