PodCamp - part I
PodCamp – the most valuable (un)conference I've gone to in the last few years. And I only caught a small part of it.
300+ people, two days and nights, talks ranging from business to technology, all centered around new media such as podcasting. I caught only 5 presentations due to family commitments, but the presentations and the networking was superb.
I expected great info. Conferences usually have great info, and people who are not – errr, experienced speakers (I say that charitably). I should have known better – many of the people at PodCamp were podcasters, and superb speakers.
Presentations were short – 30 minutes. And anyone could speak. No committees to decide who speaks. No formal proposals. You could pick a topic even during the conference.
The Saturday night event was great too. Free food, mainly free beer (someone picked up the tab and it became an open bar). Where else can you meet a big guy named Guido podcasting passionately about knitting, guys with high tech companies doing fascinating stuff, people doing free music shows and musicians, and video production people?
Oh, it was free too!
