Books - the dirty secret
So you wrote a book - good for you.
Guess what? You need to promote it now -- yes, marketing, publicity, blah blah.
Wait, I didn't self publish. I have a publisher. They have a publicist I'm working with.
Promoting your book is your job. Your publisher's publicist may be great like mine, but with one publicist and maybe 200 books a year, guess how much of her time I get? Besides, many people self publish.
Wait, what's this got to do with business blogging? Well, 81% of Americans want to write a book, but probably 95% of bloggers want to, and writing a book can be great for your business!
I'm asking for your help. Write a review on your blog and Amazon. Interview me. Be creative. I'm friendly, I link, and I answer questions and am easy to work with.
So, how am I promoting my latest book, What No One Ever Tells You About Blogging and Podcasting: Real-Life Advice from 101 People Who Successfully Leverage the Power of the Blogosphere ?
Lotsa ways:
Blogging is one great way
Getting mentions in the press using Dan Janal's excellent PRleads service (tell him I sent you)
Doing free and not so free teleseminars
Speaking at conferences and other events
Writing press releases (I use snail mail for the local papers and PRWeb for Internet distribution)
Getting bloggers and other media people to review my book
I'm trying radio and TV via Radio-TV Interview Report starting next week
Interviews on other people's blogs & podcasts (wanna interview me?)
Asking you for help!
(thanks to Bob Porter for making me write this)
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

If 95% of bloggers want to write a book, does that mean that almost every blogger is a frustrated author who only sees their blog as second best, what they have to do to get a book deal?
Why would I want to write a book? I have a blog and that is what I choose to write. Looking at it as just a means to a book seems to me to be missing the point of the medium - old media thinking if you will.
Just last week TV Guide in Canada announced it would be shutting down the print addition and going online only, a change from the usual online to print trajectory and one I expect we will see more of in the future.

Greeting Oh Popped One,
Why would you want to write a book? Hard to say as I don't know you! Certainly most consultants and entreprenuers benefit from a book - if in your field, it's the ultimate business card. Yes, people still use business cards, although admittedly less often.
Most bloggers didn't write nearly as much before they started blogging. Most bloggers enjoy blogging, much of which is writing. Almost all of the couple hundred I interviewed for my latest book either have books, or are very interested.
Makes sense that more bloggers would be interested than the general population, much of which statistically doesn't read.
Blogger == Frustrated Author??
Where did you get this from. I certainly don't believe it!
OK, I'm a frustrated (publish) author and a blogger - I'll admit it :)

Popped One? I like it!
I suppose what I was trying to say is blogging is not a means to an end but an end in and of itself (at least for me.)
It is still a new medium and I understand that many may feel there is more validation in a book, but I hope that won't always be the case.

I certainly agree - A great blog is better than a mediocre book!
