Live Podcasts
Podcasts recorded with a "live studio audience" – PaulDotCom live
I love music, and live music has an aspect that is simply superior to any canned recording. Even a recording of a live show is almost always much better to me.
Most podcasts simply miss this live aspect – the instant audience feedback and excitement. Waxxi with their scheduled podcasts has listeners interacting in real time as the podcast is recorded and is one great option.
A live podcast with an in person audience is also an interesting idea, and I recently experienced one. The PaulDotCom.com Security Weekly recorded a live podcast at this week's SANS conference in Las Vegas and I was there. Now it was their first "live" event, and I haven't heard the recording (i.e. the actual podcast) yet, but live it rocked.
This is not your typical podcast. Imagine some Howard Stern, some Three Stooges, and Abraham Lincoln drinking lots of beer and commenting on recent hacker news in front of a bunch of geeks at Caesars Palace, who incidentally are drinking lots of free beer themselves.
These guys are great live – definitely more amusing, and controversial, than your normal podcast, and I think more podcasts should experiment with "Live." More than just recorded interviews at conferences, more than just guests on the show, but an entire audience in the show, just like some sitcoms and talk shows do.
Certainly not imitating mainstream media, but learning from it and experimenting with some elements from it.
How will this "experiment" translate to a recorded podcast? Who knows? Certainly the visual aspect will be missing, but the info and excitement will carry over. I'll add a link to the show once it's up. Here it is
