Visit me on MySpace
I'm now on MySpace - come visit at http://www.myspace.com/bloggingandpodcasting
I figured it was time to check it out. 60 million users, 15 billion page views a month, 160K+ new users a day -- can they all be wrong??
Well, let's start with demographics - it's designed for teens and young adults and MOST of them seem to be there. There is very targeted and ANNOYING advertising -- think intrusive times ten. Blinking ads, moving ads, noisy ads -- reminds me of a Las Vegas casino. The User interface - let's be serious, is poor. I'd say it stinks!
But if your target demographics are young people, you'd best be there. You can create a MySpace space for yourself, your dog, your company, a product -- anything you want.
I've created one for me, but I think I'll change it into one for What No One Ever Tells You About Blogging and Podcasting.
Many organizations are successfully marketing on MySpace, including OxFam and The Student Loan Network.
I certainly don't expect to sell a lot of books via MySpace, but I do want to check it out.
Obviously http://www.myspace.com/bloggingandpodcasting is a real work in progress. So what am I doing right or wrong, MySpace experts? (I know, I have no blog posts there yet!).
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

I must say that I have become addicted to MySpace...I found many old friends and began advertising my business to them through Bulletins. I have gotten a few new reps under me doing this...so I think it has been a success....I don't think that MySpace will make me rich or get me many sales, but hey, its free and I get to keep in touch with old friends...its a win win situation!

Hi Amber, Haven't run into any old friends yet that I wasn't already in contact with, but I'll give it time.
I'm beginning to see its allure though

Hi Ted. I'm reasonably sure that you won't remember meeting me, but we did come across each other six or seven years ago at a client in the UK.
I pretty much agree with your comments about the amateurish UI on MySpace. 90% of the profiles I've found on there have been gaudy and reminded me of the infamous HTML blink tag! Like you, so far I'm failing to really "get it".

Hi Andy,
Was it at the UK post with Paul Hardwick? And were you living with your parents and trying to find a flat, but playing with Linux was getting in the way?
If I've got the right Andy, that's what I remember (although that may be Paul's take on it!)

er... thanks for that... I'll have to "thank" Paul for that assessment of my life situation a number of years ago - haven't seen him for a while though! As you'll see from my blog, things have moved on considerably.
Still enjoying mushy peas? ;-)

The mushy peas that were posted home were anonymously donated to the English folks next door :)
I haven't heard from Paul in about 6 months or so. He visited maybe 1 1/2 years ago and played hamradio and ate lobsters. He brought one of my antennas (aerials I believe) home.
Now that's not a bad assessment considering you were only recently out of Oxford.
