Blog Writing: Proofread your links

I always suggest people quickly proofread and spell check before posting -- and you'll still make missteaks :)

What about links? Since you can't really proofread those, AFTER publishing you had better check your links. Click on them -- make sure they work.

I should and usually do, but really have to push myself to do it more often.

Why is this soooooo important (yes, I'm emphasizing this)?

Two reasons:
1) Links are often screwed up
2) Almost no one will EVER tell you

I've had hundreds of people click on some of my bad links before anyone told me. In one case I had a bad link in my email signature, and I live in email, for over 6 months before anyone told me!

Just today I went into a meeting and part of the corrections where.. you guessed it.. link corrections. Real stupid stuff that could have been avoided with a quick check.

Jack,
Always amazes me -- we all mess up the simple stuff!

Great post! Wordpress does this to me all the time (grrrr - lol)

Sorry for not being around. Blasted weather got me with the ice storm, then my father-in-law (age 89) slipped and broke his hip. He's doing better and I have electricity (yippee!)

Hope all is well there. Best wishes to you!

Hi Marti
Electricity! Love it. hope I have it tomorrow in Dallas - hear they've had problems. Hope all is great with you and your father-in-law recovers.

Keelan Green

Very simple, yet very good advice. I was going through a buch of the blogs I read tonight and came across numerous links that weren't working.
