Link and they will come!
Write it and they will come doesn't work.
Link and they will come does. Huhhhhh???
If no one finds out your blog, how will they visit it? Several ways to make people aware of your blog, including simply telling them.
Guy Kawasaki for example emailed his closest 10,000 friends when he started blogging. Well, you and I don't have as many friends and don't you dare try spamming either.
You can however, link to other bloggers and they'll usually visit to check you out.
For example, today I checked Technorati.com and found there are a couple new links to my blog, Chaos Magnet and Capital PR (thanks for the links!).
No surprise that I immediately visited those blogs. And I like them too.
Bottom line? Link to blogs you like. They may visit you in return and also decide they like your blog.
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Visiting blogs and sharing comments definitely works to increase blog attraction.
I'd love to do more of it, but like most of us, my day is filled with starting and completing projects and the like.
But that's okay. I assign a few of my weekend hours to reviewing blogs I like and looking for new ones, linking to some and usually asking the blogger to consider linking back (sometimes I forget that part).

Hi Shirley,
Yes, life is toooo busy sometimes. I spent a little while reading and commenting early Sat morning while the kids ate cereal.

Linking is good and certainly increases traffic, but a popular blog is ultimately most dependent on content. You're only as good as your last post and it takes time to consistently provide good content.
That's why so many people just drop out of blogging. Too much work for no reward.

I think we should link sensibly, and link to the blog posts that are relevant to the one you are writing. You might link to 2 a day, but over a period of time, that is where you get traffic. At least, that is how I built mine.

I wonder sometimes how a thousand people can stampede through my blog in a week and not bother to drop a single comment behind them.
But then again I also wonder who decides that a particular brand of catfood tastes like "Liver and Cheese"....

Wonderful tip, Ted. Not only does linking generously introduce yourself to new bloggers, it introduces your audience to those authors. Thanks for introducing me a few new sites here.

Great information. I'm new to blogging and am still trying to figure out how to use Technorati and other tools to track and drive traffic. Now I know to look there to find out who's linking to me (when they do!). Loved your story on Marketing Diva's Blogger Stories.

I'm new to blogging also.
How do you "gracefully" ask other bloggers to link back to your site?
