Tracking Feed stats - the Essential Feedburner
Blog stats are important. How many readers do you have? What do readers like best? What keywords/phrases are people searching on to find you? Are they following links to find you? What links? Etc.
Lots of choices for tracking most stats, including StatCounter, 103bees, Google Analytics, and SiteMeter. Even better, they all have FREE versions!
Whattabout feed traffic? You know, people reading your blog via MyYahoo!, Bloglines, Netvibes, Firefox live bookmarks etc? Many of these readers 'fly under the radar' of the tools mentioned above. I have ONE answer:
Feedburner tracks how many people are reading your blog via feeds, what feedreader they are using, what they are clicking on -- and that's just the free version. Feedburner does MUCH more, both the free and paid versions.
Like all traffic tools, Feedburner requires a minor tweak to your blogs template and has simple instructions.
For some screenshots and other info, take a look at A Peek Inside TechCrunch's 100k Subscriber Milestone. TechCrunch has 113,000 readers accessing via feedreaders. I have less than 1000 (and I appreciate every one of you!).
If you haven't implemented Feedburner yet, check it out. You will probably want to!
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Hey Ted,
Thanks for posting about our feed stats. I wanted to stop by and let you know that we now offer analytics on your blog, too, using our SiteStats.

Since you're already using FeedFlare, the good news for you is that there isn't much to do except "flick the switch" inside your FeedBurner dashboard. Then...you'll get get your feed and site stats in one place.
What's next? Widget stats. We will give you a 360 degree view of your content where ever it lives. That's important to business folks, right?
Feel free to give us a shout if you need anything in the future!

Hi Jake,
Thanks for stopping by.
I'm looking forward to experimenting with your SiteStats so I can get all my stats in one place.
If it's as good as your Feed stats, it'll be a winner,

Thanks Ted. I'm using FeedBurner for my feeds. Last week I explored FeedBurner more and found out how much it can with stats. Your post reminded me to look for a Mac OS X widget that would give me stats. I found one.

Hi Dawud,
Yes, it's amazing how much Feedburner can do - I barely scrath its surface

I signed up for Feedburner about a week ago, and I'm liking the features.
I just wish I could completely substitute the WP.com feeds with the Feedburner ones, so I'd only get people subscribing via Feedburner. I can see that would really improve my ability to understand my audience.

Unfortunately WP.com doesn't give you full control -- but it is getting better.
I have the same problem with Blogger.com. Now Blogger DOES give you full control, but figuring out how to make everyone use FeedBurner is on the backburner for now.

Hi Jake. I just wanted to stop by and suggest taking a look at HitTail. It's not analytics, but rather is a tool that monitors your search visitor traffic and issues writing suggestions, which when acted upon, help to boost your natural search traffic.
