Why Your Blog Stinks
My book has shaken former WhyMyBlogStinks author Steve Remington out of the woodwork!
I enjoyed his blog and insights but he disappeared (seems he's been writing on hunting and parenting).
So why might your blog stink?
1) Not engaging in conversations
2) Fear of Linking
3) Being long-winded
4) Not posting regularly and consistently
5) Not having a voice
Steve will be writing more on these soon I hope.
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Apparently my stinky blog was hacked into and it came at the wrong time. Lost focus on it. But I will be blogging for sure about those things. Been planning to launch my new blog for some time but your blog got me going on it sooner than later.

Good list, Ted. Here are a few more:
6. Produce ORIGINAL CONTENT. Why should anyone click on your link if all they are going to get is something written by somebody else? Links are fine but you need to include your own valuable perspective on them.
7. Illustrate. If a picture will add to the reader's understanding and enjoyment of your post, take the time to add that bit of code. The Beast did a piece today about Ted's book and he made sure to include a picture of the book cover.
8. Don't garbage up your blog. Overly-elaborate blogs can be a real turnoff. Readers come to read YOU. Do not make them hunt through a pile of crap to find what they want. Look at the really successful blogs: most are pretty simple, right? The true star of your blog is YOU - feature your work prominently.
9. Entertain. If your topic bores you, it will bore the reader and he will not return.
10. Provide a sense of self. This speaks to voice - would you drone on and on about industrial adhesives at a cocktail party? If so, blogging is most likely not for you.

1. Your blog looks like everyone else's. Answer: Learn a little HTML, CSS and Photoshop skills and convert that canned template into your own. Spruce it up a little. Change the colours, make a new graphic for the banner, or put the sidebar on the other side. Whatever... as long as it looks unique and like YOU.
