An almost blog? -- SANS Leadership Laboratory
The CTO of one of my biggest clients, a guy I respect a lot, and friend, Stephen Northcutt, has a Leadership Laboratory, that he calls "almost a blog."
I'm going to claim it's at least 95% a blog. Close enough that "who cares?"
- OK, it's not blog software, big deal.
- No "traditional comments" -- yet feedback is allowed, if not encouraged. There is an email address and feedback is actively encouraged. Others have submitted potential posts that have been added. Many have been invited as well, even me.
- The writing, although to the point and relatively informal, isn't as informal and personal as in a blog. Informal -- close enough, who cares. Personal? Not a big miss here, but more "traditional article like" and perhaps more appropriate for the intended audience? Hey, a blog is intended to convey information -- it's #1 goal. How it does that best depends on the intended audience among other things.
- Hey, it's got an RSS feed of course! It's even via Feedburner, my favorite!
- Reverse chronological order.
- Stephen natural state is in sandals and with ponytail and he lives on a tropical island -- very neoinfohippie and Web 2.0! (insert smiley face here if you'd like).
The intended audience of the SANS Leadership Laboratory (and I won't guess who they are, although I can pretty accurately I think) may prefer this format to "100% pure blog."
Is this a blog, blog-like, or does it matter?
