Why is My Latest Book is free ???
Why is my latest book Effective Online Presence, Now required for success in business and life free?
Well Seth Godin says online movie rentals should be 50 cents. How much for digital?
Well most of the costs are fixed or gone. The 10,000th download costs as much as the 1st to me -- nothing. I've already got the Websites, the bandwidth, the blog, etc.
I wrote it once, it just took time, and it's done. It is free, so I leave it free.
There is no need to follow or model on the dead tree paper publishing industry
Sure, I'd love to make a million from it, but I'd rather spread ideas right now.
Free is --- good. Cheap is --- good. As long as it's good, the price doesn't matter, no matter how low :)
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Hello Ted:
Whilst I agree with your analysis and approach, the question that you ask speaks to the scepticism of some potential readers when faced with a free digital product. Any ideas on how to address that, apart from writing articles like this one? :)

Galba,
Great question -- simple answer.
You need to promote the free stuff just as much as the paid stuff!
Everyday I'm emailing 10-15 people I know and telling them, primarily bloggers, but also people in the college community as I do a lot of college speaking http://www.teddemop.com and know students can benefit from this info.
I'm pitching several journalists a week (thanks PRLeads.com for making this simple).
I'm running an ad in Personal Branding Magazine (inexpensive) -- an interview with Rumplestiltskin.
I should write a press release, but I've been busy!
I may run some ads using ad credits I've traded for in SpeakerNetNews.com
I've emailed my mailing lists, hundreds of people, who expect free things from me.
I've got a Web site up http://effectiveinternetpresence.com to help promote.
These are a few of the things I'm doing -- oh, I forgot the podcast and Internet radio interviews.
In other words, I'm working at it, and trying to be creative!
