Most Popular Social Networks: MySpace & Facebook?
MySpace and Facebook together account for 88% of all social media visits, according to a Hitwise survey.
MySpace leads with a WHOPPING 76%, while 3rd place Bebo.com (I'll admit I've never even looked at it) has less than 1%.
Pretty shocking statistics!
Now a number of sites were left out of the survey, including the extremely popular LinkedIn and YouTube.
What do I think?
- MySpace - I don't like them personally. Too many flashing lights and uuuugly interface.
- Facebook - I'm active, but not real crazy about spending much time in Facebook. It's growing on me, and just about everyone I know professionally is there.
- LinkedIn - I use and like it. It's much more business oriented. Again, just about everyone I know professionally is there.
- YouTube - Despite my "I'm not into video" mantra, I really dig YouTube. I was looking at old Frank Zappa interviews last night for example. I'm getting into video soon -- I've promised to myself to check it out
Some great business viral video possibilities here, as well as "how to" type videos. I love some of The SANS Institute videos, like Eavesdropping on Bluetooth by Josh Wright.
Thanks to Paul Gillin's newsletter for the heads up on the Hitwise report.
Effective Internet Presence: Now required for success in business and life

Ted,
LinkedIn is growing on me.
Facebook I don't like -- when I did participate, I felt like the middle-aged geezer in a bar full of 20-somethings.
MySpace is for kids.
I love YouTube, as does my son.
Another Web 2.0 invention that I love and use -- but isn't a social networking site -- Meebo. IM without having to download AOL spyware. :-)
