Most blogs are still crap and most social networking inane

Alan Weiss says "most blogs are still crap and most social networking inane" and he's right.

And most words that leave my mouth are worthless yet I get paid six figures yearly to speak.

Obviously some of my words are valuable just as some blogs and social networking valuable.

Alan's post has probably a hundred comments by now, including by folks like Seth Godin, Yvonne DiVita, Reg Adkins, Debbie Weil, Mack Collier, and Robert Scoble.

Check out the conversation here --- err, perhaps conversation/rant/preaching.

Now I'm a big fan of Alan. I've read most of his books MORE THAN ONCE. I don't agree with him 100% on anything. I don't agree 100% with anyone. Not even myself.

His main point (I quote) is:

Social media, or whatever the blazes you want to call it, is a very minor mechanism FOR SOLO CONSULTANTS TO SELL TO CORPORATE EXECUTIVE BUYERS!

Well Alan, it works. It's not the same as a referral, or somehow meeting in person, or even having them sit in a speech you give.

Actually it works better for the gatekeepers, the "ancillary decision makers" who might have the power of veto, and other influencers who might recommend you to corporate executive buyers.

Oh yeah, it might get  you a book contract, like the one that found me, and lead to additional work too.

But on the whole, I agree with Alan.

Thanks to the Blog Squad for the heads up ( I wonder if they have a theme song that sounds like the old Batman theme song?).

Reg of Elemental Truths

I don't know about crap or inane but I do think there are platforms that are more user friendly to certain temperaments. I've done a series on the subject if you are interested.
