If you were to start blogging today, what would you name your blog?

• Darren Rowse, Mr. ProBlogger himself, says "ProBlogger pretty much says it all for me."

Darren, I agree. ProBlogger is the perfect name for your blog (Darren has other blogs as well).

• Brian Clark, the very popular Copyblogger, claims he'd name his blog "Lindsay Lohan's Naked Rehab Pictures"

This clearly shows Brian has his finger on the pulse of what's new and popular, certainly compared to me, as I didn't even know Lindsay Lohan had naked rehab pictures out there :)

Brian adds in a more serious tone, the question is "a bit hard, since I started Copyblogger primarily so I could do other projects *because* of Copyblogger."

I understand perfectly. I didn't start blogging so that I could blog either, but have ended up doing some wonderful things because of blogging, including writing books and speaking far more than before.

Of course I've met many wonderful people through blogging as well too -- as most all bloggers do.

Web Stats love

I love Web stats. The information you can get is amazing . . .

Why am I posting on "Blog Names" so much? The stats show you care. Yes, my posts on blog names are the most popular (that doesn't mean everyone cares, however, so I'm not "Blog names all the time").

Most popular posts? Yes, I know and so should you. Expand on popular topics.

I have a relatively new Website up on College Speaking -- and I know someone from "Suny Herkimer Community College" looked at it at 10:37AM this morning. I sent them a flyer on my College Speaking ("How to get a great job using the Internet" is my most popular topic).

I also know that 7 people Googled me yesterday and visited my main Web site, demop.com, and about 300 people have read my article on The 7 rules of Effective Email in the last 2 days so it's popular.

I also know some of the stuff I wrote that I thought was fantastic -- well, no one cares :)

I'm using a combo of StatCounter, which gives me real time info, and Google Analytics, which gives me more details, but only from yesterday back.

On yes, and I'm not paying a penny for either!

Blog Names - 3 That Wouldn't Change

Continuing our one question interview series which asks, "If you were to start blogging today, what would you name your blog?" here are five bloggers who wouldn't change their blog names.

• Writing White Papers by Michael Stelzner, a great blog for writers and marketers regardless of whether you ever write white papers or not. Writing White Papers is also the name of Michael's well regarded book.

• Success From The Nest by Tony D. Clark, "Inspiration, tips, and advice for the home-based entrepreneur and those aspiring to be one," together with great cartoons and humor. I learn a lot from Tony's blog.

• Schneier on Security by Bruce Schneier. Bruce writes on, well, security. As a security guy myself, professionally speaking from way back, I read Bruce daily. I like how he blogs on squid (the sea creature) every Friday, throwing some fun into his blog.

Blog Names from Chris Brogan and Mike Sansone

If Chris Brogan and Mike Sansone started blogging today, what would they call their blogs?

This was the hardest interview I've ever had. It took me about 20 minutes to answer that.

His answer? "Thought Explorer"
Love the name. thoughtexplorer.com is taken, maybe by Chris Brogan himself?

Mike Sansone of the popular ConverStations blog, reports:

If we’re sticking with the same subject matter I blog about now…I’d stick with this name.

If I were to create a new blog today, I’d name it Blog Literacy – in fact, look for something along that line early next year.

In fact Mike already owns BlogLiteracy.com and plans to start blogging there with Angela Maiers.

My Blog Name Changed My Entire Life

I asked Dan Schawbel "If you were to start blogging today, would you give your blog a different name?"
His Blog name has had a major impact!

Ted, excellent question.  My entire life has changed since I unearthed my legacy blog and translated it into the Personal Branding Blog on March 15th of this year.  I'm in the midst of thinking of names for my new book, but as of now I feel that the Personal Branding Blog gives me a few great perks.  I've listed the top 4 below, but realize that my passion for personal branding supersedes any website or name given.

1. SEO - by having the domain name personalbrandingblog.com and tying it in with personalbrandingblog.wordpress.com , it's helped me rise to the top of the ranking and claim the #1 spot for personal branding.  The 710 blog links also helped.
2. Name Recognition - people associate personal branding to my name because of my blog.  If you google personal branding or dan schawbel, you will see they both connect.  When people view my blog they already know what I'm going to be speaking about.
3. Hub of Information - My blog has become a central communication, collaboration and information breeding ground.  The term Personal Branding encompasses various related topics, such as entrepreneurship, social media, reputation management and public relations, so it all ties in. 
4. Consistency - Even more so, it shares a consistent message and image with my sister websites; Personal Branding Magazine, The Personal Brand Awards and Personal Branding TV.

Treat Blog Names as Seriously as Book Names: Morty Schiller

Hmmm, blog names MAY be more important than book names. After all, my blog may be alive and kicking well after my books are eventually out of print.

And with that, Heeeere's Morty:

I called my blog Wordrider when I started it in 2005. I was still looking at blogs then as breezy journals. I commented once on your blog about how I got the name. I originally thought of calling it "Wordsmith." But I found that some people had negative connotations with that term.

If I were naming my blog now, I would treat the name as seriously as a book title--suggesting an immediate benefit for reading. But I think changing the name might do more harm than good.

Yaro Starak, author of the free Blog Profits Blueprint and creator of Blog Mastermind program:

Very tough question. In the past I would have definitely said yes. My domain has a hyphen in it, it's too hard to spell entrepreneur and I don't own the non-hypen version...however, it's a brand now as much as a domain and who knows if that would have happened with a different domain.

InternetBusinessBlog.com just isn't as catchy or romantic as entrepreneurs-journey.com.

Tamera Kremer, Wildfire Strategic Marketing:

I wouldn't. The title (3i) conveys the essence of my blogging 'brand' and the sub-head ("innovate. integrate. ignite.") sums up my approach to marketing. And besides that, it's always listed first in blog rolls :)

John Kinde, a speaker who specializes in humor skills, former blackjack and nuclear weapons dealer (did I get that right John?):

I haven't given it much thought.  I'd probably keep the same name. Humor Power Blog. The focus of my blog is adding humor to your presentations. and the name matches my business name. I don't think I'd want my personal name as my blog name.

Blog Names, Seth Godin, and "The Importance of being Ernest"

I asked Seth Godin my one question on Blog Names, "If you were to start blogging today, would you give your blog a different name?"

His response?

probably: boingboing

Hmmm, boingboing is one of the most popular blogs out there.
Maybe this is like Oscar Wilde's masterpiece, "The Importance of Being Ernest" where someone's name (Ernest) was of critical importance. Maybe "boingboing" is just a such a great name?

Nahh, I think it's:

   The Importance of Being Ernest A Purple Cow

Interesting how every interaction Seth is worth discussing, is memorable, is simply remarkable. This purple cow thing, I believe it runs through his blood and it happens without any conscious thought on his part.

For example when I needed 101 people to sign releases for my last book, What No Ever blah blah blah, only one person's actions were memorable. Yes, I remember my interaction with Seth, but no one else.

Plus, I'm sure he likes the name too :)

My Favorite Blog Name

As I've mentioned before, Blog Names Are Very Important!

One of my favorite Blog Names is Escape From Cubicle Nation (and it's a great blog too?).

Now why is this a great name?

• Well,"escape" from anything sounds good for starters.
• And "Cubicle" sounds pretty bad in a Dilbertesque manner.
• "Cubicle Nation," at least to me, brings to mind acres of anonymous corporate workers with zero control over their lives.
• Personal Branding -- as in "That Escape From Cubicle Nation lady" -- is VERY strong.

Now part of my love for this name is certainly my mindset. I haven't worked in a cubicle, except for passing short stints as a consultant with some control over my destiny, for almost 2 decades.

Cubicles don't scare me, but me in a cubicle does!

I'm not the employee type. My value, even to clients who embody the "Cubicle Nation" spirit, and I have several, is not as an employee but as an independent voice with opinions and views from the outside.

Now there is nothing wrong with living in a Cubicle for many people. Many of my close friends are cubicle types and thrive on it.

What don't I like about it -- and all names have tradeoffs.

• No keywords or phrases in the name

Hey, you can't have everything! Escape From Cubicle Nation  is simply a fantastic name, and great content as well.
