(at the risk of offending some of you . . .)
Hi, I'm a dummy although I want to be taken seriously, as a serious professional, as a serious business.
I have a free email address like dumbdave@hotmail.com or dumbann@gmail.com or dumbjoe@yahoo.com
Or maybe an ISP address like cluelesskate@comcast.net or moronicmike@aol.com
Come on people, as your main professional email address:
Ditch the “free” email addresses for business
Don’t use an ISP based email address
DO use something@yourdomain.com, e.g. ted@tedscompany.com, mary@cerinttechnology.com, etc.
If you can't figure out how to do this, borrow your neighbor's 12 year old and buy them a pizza as payment. Kids are pretty technical, especially if you are not.
This SHOULD be common sense, but every week I'm contacted by people (yes, including good friends) who use what I can only "dumb-ass" email addresses as their main email address.
These email addresses have their uses, for example to signup for newsletters, but I'm as likely to use one as my main biz email address as I am to show up unshaven, unbathed, and wearing dirty smelly clothes when I'm giving a major keynote speech!
And also, no "cute" email addresses for business use! Don't use something like cutekitten@yourcompany.com or hotkaren@yourcompany.com -- unless of course you're in the "cat" business, a prostitute, or similar . . .
